Africa has the youngest population in the world with its continent home to over 1.2 billion people. Virtually, more than 60% of this population falls below the age of 25 years. The youthful population is on the increase in Africa and there is widespread frustration and agitation over limited economic opportunities, growing corruption, rising unemployment as well as limited opportunities for political participation by African youth. It is with this that the All African Conference of Churches (AACC) recognized that the future lies in the potential of their young people who are powerful agents of change and development and a source to deliver an emerging Africa: our home, our future as an envisioned in Agenda 2030 and 2063.
The All Africa Youth Congress (AAYC) is an initiative of the All Africa Conference of Churches (AACC) to accelerate a continental Youth Campaign on Africa Patriotism. The congress theme for the year is Africa: My Home. My Future. This is geared towards creating a generational drive that consists of passionate, empowered, and patriotic African youth who are committed to the revolution of their countries and continent holistically.
The congress is scheduled to hold from the 31st of October to the 5th of November, 2022 at the Pentecost Convention Center, Accra, Ghana. Youth leaders across 204-member churches such as the Protestant, Anglican, Orthodox, and indigenous churches in Africa are to be in attendance.
This event is promised to be a youth-friendly one to allow for conversations and more interactions among participants. It will consist of high-level panels with renowned Pan-Africanists and youth leaders, workshops, seminars, dialogue, music, and worship. It is also an opportunity for young minds to meet, share, learn and connect. The thematic areas for this congress include; Youth and African Patriotism, Active Citizenship, Justice and Security, and African Dignity. The participants are expected to identify with the various thematic areas as it going to be an exceptional congress.
Furthermore, it is expected that at the end of this congress there will be an emergence of national youth networks actively engaging in decision-making processes, increased participation of young people in governance and political processes in Africa, potent spaces created between entrepreneurs and potential entrepreneurs for ongoing future empowerment and youth informed by the dynamics of Agenda 2063 and sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for active involvement towards nation building.
