Uganda National Prayer on Human Trafficking

Human trafficking continues to exist in the shadows and beyond the reach of the law putting millions at risk.  Thousands of children, women, girls, and boys are trafficked and enslaved everyday across the globe. Uganda is a source, transit and destination country for women, children and men subjected to human trafficking. In 2013, Member States adopted resolution A/RES/68/192 and designated 30th July as the World Day against Trafficking in Persons. This resolution declared that such a day was necessary to “raise awareness of the situation of victims of human trafficking and for the promotion and protection of rights and dignity of the victims.

This year’s theme focused on the role of technology as a tool that can both enable and impede human trafficking.

Against the above background John Paul II Justice Peace Centre (JPIIJPC), Uganda Episcopal Conference (UEC), and Association of Religious in Uganda (ARU), in collaboration with Uganda Joint Christian Council (UJCC), Inter-Religious Council of Uganda (IRCU) and African Faith Justice Network (AFJN), have organized national prayer for creating awareness and promoting the rights and dignity of the victims of human trafficking. The prayer is also intended to seek God’s protection for the victims, encourage those groups that assist the victims, ask for proactive actions against the vice by all key stakeholders, and appeal for the conversion of the perpetrators.

The prayer is scheduled for Friday 9th September 2022 at Kololo Ceremonial ground starting at 9 am. The prayer will be presided over by His Grace Arch Bishop John Baptist Odama. The chief Guest will be Right Hon. Prime Minister, Robinah Nabbanja.
